Richard Moore

Friends,

Common Courage Press sent me a free reviewer's copy of it's
new book release by John Ross, "The War Against Oblivion -
The Zapatista Chronicles". I haven't had time to read it
all yet, but a preliminary browse leads me to recommend it
highly for your consideration.

The Zapatistas see their struggle in global terms, and we
can consider them to be a vanguard in the struggle of the
world's peoples and cultures to resist the steamroller of
neoliberal globalization. The book gives a thorough
description of their struggle, and their strategy and
tactics - in the face of overwhelming superior force. For
anyone considering the problem of how globalization can be
resisted, this book promises both information and
inspiration.

As I see it, the Zapatista movement and our movement are the
same. Each of us does our part as best we can, from our
circumstances - whether we march in Seattle, work to educate
the public, or rip up evil GM crops. What's special about
the Zapatistas is the extent to which they have been
successful in their campaign. We have much to learn from
them, and any opportunity to collaborate with them is an
opportunity we should look at with enthusiasm.

'Schools for Chiapas' is indeed a good cause, but beyond
that it offers us an opportunity for collaboration and
movement web-weaving.

best regards,
rkm
